For the Love of Reading Book Club
EdAllies provides programming and engagement opportunities for students of all ages, including young learners, through our “For The Love Of Reading” book club. Gatherings include a read-along session with the featured author, food, and fun activities to get kids enthusiastic about reading and create the building blocks for advocacy as they explore identity, culture, and topical issues presented by local authors. Previous book club authors have included Kao Kalia Yang, Shayla Michelle, Nekima Levy Armstrong, Sheletta Brundidge, and Mercedes Yarbrough.
Our emerging reader book club serves students in grades 2-5, and meets monthly at a local library in the Twin Cities. We are always welcoming new students! Upcoming dates include:
- Wednesday, Feb. 25, Sun Ray Library, St. Paul—Featured Author: Devina Moore reading from What Is Black?
- Wednesday, March 25, Sun Ray Library, St. Paul—Featured Author: Crystal Stein reading from the Echoes of Excellence series.
- Wednesday, April 8, Sun Ray Library, St. Paul—Featured Author: Cierra Hopson reading from The Cyanna Series.
- Wednesday, April 22, Sumner Library, Minneapolis—Featured Author: Cierra Hopson reading from The Cyanna Series.
- Wednesday, May 6, Sumner Library, Minneapolis—Featured Author: Mya the Author, book TBD
- Thursday, June 11, Conway Recreation Center, St. Paul (Parent Appreciation Night)—Featured Author: Mercedes Yarborough, book TBD
